Gurgaon: Residents of DLF-2 have sought improvements to the condition of the colony’s electricity distribution network. They said clusters of meters installed on poles, tangled cables and ageing connections are causing frequent outages and posing safety risks, particularly during the monsoon.Residents said several electricity poles have multiple meters fitted close together, with cables hanging loosely and running in different directions. In some areas, meters have been installed on walls, with wires extending close to the ground. They said waterlogging in parts of the colony during the monsoon could increase the risk of short circuits, fires and electric shocks if damaged cables or loose connections come in contact with water.Residents claimed that electricity poles and meter clusters have caught fire at several locations in the colony. Fire personnel and quick response teams managed to prevent major damage in some cases. However, residents said repeated incidents point to the need to address underlying problems rather than respond only after a fire.“There have been several fire incidents involving poles and meters. From a safety standpoint, the infrastructure needs to be inspected and strengthened. Frequent outages are another major concern. The power goes off often, and during the hot and humid summer months, it becomes difficult for residents,” said Ishwar Kewalramani, a resident of DLF-2.Residents said tangled cables, loose or ageing connections and loads exceeding sanctioned capacity in some areas could be putting additional strain on the network. They have sought proper meter panels, replacement or tightening of old connections and transformer augmentation wherever required.“We have raised these concerns with DHBVN officials and are also taking them up with senior officials. Meters should be properly housed in secure panels and the distribution system should be upgraded,” said Sanjeev Sahni, another resident.Meanwhile, DHBVN superintending engineer Manoj Yadav said transformer capacity was adequate in DLF-2 and additional transformers had been installed wherever required. “The meters have been installed outside houses as per Haryana govt policy. There is no issue with the installation of meters as such,” he said.
