Mumbai: BMC on Friday refused permission to political parties/persons to organise dahi handi utsav at Ashok Kedare Chowk, Bhandup (W).In-charge municipal commissioner Prajakta Verma-Lavangare rejected permission to Shiv Sena’s Sandip Jalgaonkar and MNS in view of a fresh police report received on Sept 4 that mentioned “the possibility of law and order situation.” On Jalgaonkar’s petition, HC on Thursday had directed the civic chief to hold a meeting with both applicants and take a decision. The in-charge chief noted that last year HC refused permission observing the wisdom of police decision for maintaining law and order cannot be questioned. “The present matter also involves a similar situation… It would be appropriate to reject the request of the petitioner as well as respondent (MNS),” she added.
