Kolkata: The family of 66-year-old Kasba resident Sushmita Bhattacharya has been anxiously waiting for news after losing contact with her during the flash floods in Nepal. She too was in the group of 32 tourists who had gone with Chalo Jaai Travel Club and have been unreachable amid the disaster.Her daughter Tiyasha Chattopadhyay said the family had been unable to contact either Bhattacharya or the managers of the tour operator.“They were supposed to cross the stretch which was most affected by the flash flood. We have received no information about them so far,” said Chattopadhyay.“We had last spoken over phone last Sunday. On Monday, she texted me that she had left Kathmandu and that the tour was in progress. She had texted me again on Tuesday that she had reached the Nepal–Tibet border and was scheduled to cross over to Tibet on Wednesday. Since then, we couldn’t contact her,” said Chattopadhyay.Chattopadhyay said the tour agency had informed them that they were put up at a hotel named Suman Guest House near the border and by 6:30 am, they were at the immigration counter. “The flash flood happened around 8:45 am. An official of the tour agency said he hoped that by then the group may have crossed over to Tibet. But these are all guesswork as there is no official confirmation,” she added.Bhattacharya is an original resident of Barasat Colony More.
