No bail for man who faked religion, identity on matrimonial site
Judges gavel and law books stacked behind

Ahmedabad: A city sessions court here on Thursday denied bail to Karim Sipai, accused of posing as a Hindu on a matrimonial website for allegedly luring women into relationships, promising marriage and threatening to circulate their intimate videos.Rejecting Sipai’s bail application, judge V A Dhadhal said, “If he is granted bail, he could repeat the offence. Releasing him could also encourage similar offenders to believe that they could easily secure bail even after being caught. To set an example in society, this case does not seem fit to grant bail to the accused.”According to the prosecution, Sipai allegedly created a profile on the matrimonial website using the Hindu identity, Aditya Patel, despite being a Muslim. He allegedly gained the confidence of the complainant and other women by concealing his identity and promising to marry them.It was alleged that he established physical relationships with the complainant on the promise of marriage but later refused to marry her. He allegedly threatened to circulate videos of their intimate moments to blackmail her. He is also accused of collecting Rs 15,000 from her through multiple online and cash transactions. The case was registered at the Mahila police station (West) under BNS and the Information Technology Act.Sipai sought bail, maintaining innocence and claiming that he has been falsely implicated. He submitted that the alleged offences spanned from July 2023 to Nov 2025, but the FIR was lodged in June 2026. Opposing bail, public prosecutor Sudhir Brahmbhatt argued that the accused was facing serious charges and that two other offences had also been registered against him.
