Gorakhpur: NISHAD Party head Sanjay Nishad on Thursday invoked the legacy of former MP Phoolan Devi while launching a sharp attack on the rival Samajwadi Party, alleging that SP leaders had repeatedly betrayed marginalised communities and failed to protect those who challenged the established political order.Addressing a gathering, he described Phoolan Devi as a symbol of resistance, social justice and women’s rights. Nishad alleged that after Phoolan Devi surrendered and entered public life, political leaders used her legacy but later betrayed her.Referring to her killing and the deaths of other political leaders, Nishad questioned those who were in power at the time and demanded accountability for the circumstances in which they were killed.“Is forming a political party a crime?” Nishad asked, while alleging that leaders who attempted to create independent political platforms were targeted or sidelined. Phoolan Devi also made ‘Eklavya Sena’, a political party, he said.Phoolan’s struggle represented the fight for dignity and justice for women and weaker sections. “Those who respect women will have our support,” he said.
