Alwar: A 55-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead by a neighbour in Deeg district Sunday, about an hour after she slapped him during a dispute, police said.Police identified the deceased as Geeta Devi. She was returning from the fields with fodder when the accused allegedly opened fire at her. She was rushed to RBM Hospital in Bharatpur, where doctors declared her dead.The victim’s daughter, Gudiya, told police that the accused, a neighbour, used to stand outside their house every day. Around 8 am on Sunday, when her parents objected, an argument broke out. The accused allegedly abused Geeta’s husband and pushed him. Geeta then slapped the man, after which he allegedly threatened to kill the family within an hour.Police said the accused returned around 9 am as Geeta and her daughter were walking back from the fields. He allegedly confronted them, pulled out an illegal country-made pistol and shot Geeta before fleeing.Residents chased and caught the accused about 500 metres from the village before handing him over to police. Additional police personnel were deployed in the village as a precaution.SP Kamble Sharan Gopinath said the accused has been detained and the weapon recovered. He said further legal action will be taken after the victim’s family lodges a formal complaint.
