Kolkata: Nehru Children’s Museum will resume its dance, painting and recitation classes at the ground floor, starting from Saturday after the state govt pledged support to upgrade fire safety. The museum had decided to shut its classes, keeping in mind the safety of the students. In a meeting on Wednesday, it was decided that parents would continue to pay the old fee between Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,200 for 21 classes till March 31, 2027.The fee will be increased to Rs 6,000 for 21 classes from April next year.“The govt advised us to hike our fees to run the museum in a sustainable way. Hence, we consulted with the parents to understand whether they can afford it as most of the students belong to middle and upper middle class,” said its director, Sudip Srimal.“Educator Indranath Guha has also agreed to be the new chairman of the National Cultural Association, which runs the museum, from Sept 20 after the annual general meeting. I had asked my daughter to resign from the secretary post,” he said.“She has already sent her resignation. I also wish to step down as the director to avoid political trouble. I have asked Guha to induct some talented people in the committee,” the director added.Srimal shared that IAS and I&CA secretary Saumitra Mohan visited the museum on Monday and suggested ways to revive the museum.
