NDMC suspends official for negligence

New Delhi: NDMC has suspended an executive engineer for dereliction of duty leading to waterlogging in different areas after heavy rain over the last two months, confirmed a senior official Wednesday.“During the rainfall on July 28, pumps were found non-functional at Tibetan Market Janpath and near Kake Da Dhaba, Connaught Place. Despite the directions, it was observed that the pump operator was not available at the site,” the order read.“The engineer has failed to discharge the duties entrusted to him with the required diligence and vigilance and has failed to maintain devotion to duty. The conduct attracts the provisions of Rule 3(1) (ii) of the CCS (Conduct) Rules, 1964. The official is suspended with immediate effect,” stated the order further. The suspension comes days after major stretches of the NDMC area, prominently Connaught Place, got waterlogged again on Aug 26 and its chairman, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, publicly apologised for the situation. In an immediate intervention, the civic agency had installed high-capacity pumps at identified waterlogging hotspots, including the Outer Circle near Panchkuian Road, Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, Mandir Marg T-point and Talkatora, among other vulnerable locations.
