NDMC engineer held for firing in air while driving drunk

New Delhi: A junior engineer with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) was arrested for allegedly firing in the air while driving through central Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar in the early hours of Thursday. Preliminary inquiry suggested that the firing was unprovoked and carried out under the influence of alcohol.The incident took place around 2 am in Bada Bazaar when the accused was driving a white sedan through the area.After receiving information about the firing, police rushed to the spot and apprehended Gagan Deep Singh (29), a resident of Old Rajendra Nagar. Originally from Kankhal in Uttarakhand, Singh was working as a junior engineer on an NDMC project in Delhi.Police recovered a .32-bore revolver, two live cartridges, two empty cartridges and five additional cartridges kept in a holster. The revolver was found to be licensed, police said.A medical examination found Singh’s blood alcohol content to be 235 mg per 100 ml of blood. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, driving with a BAC above 30 mg per 100 ml is an offence.Police have registered a case. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is under way.
