NCH superintendent transferred after minister’s inspection

Surat: The in-charge medical superintendent of New Civil Hospital (NCH), Dr Dharitri Parmar, was transferred to Vadodara on Saturday and appointed dean of Government Medical College.The development follows a recent visit by minister of state for health Praful Pansheriya to NCH, during which he reportedly expressed dissatisfaction at the hospital’s administration and delivery of patient services.According to sources, the transfer order was issued after shortcomings were observed during the minister’s surprise inspection. Pansheriya reviewed the functioning of several departments and flagged instances of mismanagement that were causing inconvenience to patients and attendants.During the visit, the minister is learnt to have raised concerns over sanitation and overall patient care management. He also directed hospital authorities to take immediate corrective measures, improve cleanliness, streamline services and ensure uninterrupted functioning of essential facilities.Following Dr Parmar’s transfer, Dr Parul Vadgama, professor in the TB and chest department, was appointed the new in-charge medical superintendent. Hospital sources said the administration has been asked to implement the minister’s directions on priority and address existing deficiencies.NCH is the largest govt hospital in South Gujarat and serves as a major referral centre for the region. It also serves patients from the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and neighbouring Maharashtra.
