Pune: Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Krishna Swaminathan lauded the Artificial Limb Centre’s (ALC) work in various indigenous assistive technologies and rehabilitation medicine for injured armed force personnel, veterans and civilians.During his maiden visit to the rehabilitation centre of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), the Navy chief was briefed on the institution’s role in developing and delivering advanced prosthetic and orthotic solutions aimed at restoring mobility and improving the quality of life of patients recovering from traumatic injuries and amputations. He toured the centre’s facilities that have enabled the centre to provide customised rehabilitation to serving personnel, veterans and civilians.The Navy chief also interacted with patients, including an injured naval officer, undergoing rehabilitation and appreciated the efforts of doctors, rehabilitation specialists and technical staff.Speaking to TOI on the sidelines of the visit, Admiral Swaminathan said, “This was my maiden visit to the establishment which has been working exceptionally well to rehabilitate and treat armed forces personnel. I visited some of the medical establishments of the Armed Forces Medical Services to acquaint myself.”The Artificial Limb Centre has adopted modern prosthetic systems, customised orthotic devices and advanced rehabilitation techniques while promoting indigenous innovation. It provides specialised care to military personnel injured during operations, training and accidents; further, it treats civilians requiring complex rehabilitation.
