Jaipur: The Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) is organising various sports competitions to mark the National Sports Day from August 24 to 29 here at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.The main objective of this six-day sports festival, being organised on the occasion of National Sports Day, is to provide a competitive sports platform to the youth of the state and to pay homage to the memory of the great hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand.Rajkesh Meena, secretary of the Rajasthan State Sports Council, stated that this event is being organised in coordination with the Youth Affairs and Sports Department of the Rajasthan Government. A sports competition organising committee has been formed for this purpose, with Manish Verma (cricket), Prashant Sapre (hockey), Ashok Dhaka (basketball), Rajnarayan Sharma (kabaddi), Praveen Sharma (volleyball), Priyadeep Singh (handball), Prem Sharma, and Rajnarayan Sharma (tug-of-war) assigned to the organisation.The competitions began with volleyball matches on August 24. Handball and basketball matches were held on Tuesday.

In volleyball, RVA Academy won the men’s category, while Jaipur Volleyball Academy won the women’s category. Six teams participated in each category.In basketball, Rajasthan Police defeated Vidyaashram School 45-41, SMS edged past Sanskar 40-35, while Vidyaashram Academy got the better of Subodh School 30-26.In the girls’ category, SMS lost to Rajasthan Police 30-40. Sports Council beat MPS 24-20, while Pink City Academy prevailed over Sanskar School 21-16.In the women’s handball category, Kanodia trounced Pink City 11-5, Maharani outclassed United Club 7-4, while RSSC dismissed Royal Club 7-5.

In the men’s category, United Club thrashed Youth Club 7-1, while Royal Club squeezed past RP Club 6-5.Rajkesh Meena stated that the knockout and final matches of kabaddi and the final match of handball will be played on August 26. Following this, the knockout rounds of hockey and the all-round and final matches of tug of war will be held on August 27.The finals for hockey and basketball will be played on the closing ceremony of National Sports Day. A friendly cricket exhibition match will also be held between the Sports Council and Sports Department employees. The winning teams will be honoured beforehand.
