Panchkula: Panchkula police Thursday destroyed narcotic substances worth over ₹6.03 crore seized in 105 cases, officials said.The contraband was disposed of at a high-temperature incineration facility in Barwala under the supervision of police commissioner Pankaj Nain.Police said all legal procedures were followed to ensure the seized substances were completely destroyed and could not be misused. To ensure transparency, DCP Srishti Gupta, ACP Ajit Singh, other police officials and technical staff remained present during the process.Officials said the drug disposal committee, headed by the police commissioner, approved the destruction only after obtaining necessary permissions from the courts concerned, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.The destroyed contraband included 2.29kg of heroin from 60 cases, 24.09 kg of charas from 11 cases, 31.75 kg of ganja from 12 cases, 5.35 kg of opium plants from one case, 6.98 kg of opium from 19 cases, 6.42 kg of poppy husk from one case and 750 intoxicating tablets from one case.Police commissioner Nain said the scientific disposal of narcotics was an important step in curbing the illegal drug trade and preventing seized contraband from re-entering circulation.DCP Gupta urged residents to share information about drug trafficking, peddling networks and the illegal sale of narcotics through the Manas Helpline (1933) or Panchkula police’s drug information helplines 7087081100 and 7087081047.She also appealed to families not to hide cases of drug addiction and encouraged those affected to seek timely help and rehabilitation.
