Kolkata: BJP national president Nitin Nabin, on his first visit to Bengal after the state unit’s organisational reshuffle, held a series of meetings on Sunday with office-bearers, district functionaries, MPs, MLAs and other functionaries, stressing tighter coordination between the party organisation, elected representatives and the state govt.At a review meeting at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, Nabin interacted with state office-bearers, vibhag convenors, morcha presidents, district functionaries and teams handling IT, media and social media. Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, state BJP president Shamik Bhattacharya and BJP national general secretary Sunil Bansal also addressed the gathering.Nabin stressed that friction between organisational functionaries and elected representatives should not create parallel power centres. The party organisation and govt, he said, needed to work in tandem to highlight the administration’s achievements.He later met MPs and MLAs to discuss improving coordination between elected representatives and the organisation.BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rahul Sinha said: “The national president took stock of the work done in Bengal during the first 150 days of the new govt and identified areas needing improvement. This serves as a roadmap for the future work of the BJP govt.”The BJP also appointed new in-charges for four organisational districts in and around Kolkata ahead of the Nov KMC polls. Tapas Mitra was named in-charge of North Kolkata, Tanuja Chakraborty of South Kolkata, MLA and state secretary Deepanjan Kumar Guha of Jadavpur, and former South 24 Parganas West district president Satyapriya Chakraborty of Diamond Harbour.“District in-charges bring extensive organisational experience to assist district presidents. They act as the eyes and ears of the state unit in its dealings with the districts,” said Chakraborty.Sources said a senior BJP neta had directed the new team to form booth committees within seven days. Each committee will have 21 members, with preference for local residents with a “clean image” who are affiliated with the BJP or aligned with nationalist ideology.The reshuffle also saw Sarbari Mukherjee removed as Jadavpur vice-president, with Guha replacing her following controversy over her comments on recent Jadavpur University incidents.
