MUMBAI: Mumbai Police on Monday clarified that they have stopped issuing notices to protesters named in FIRs related to last week’s demonstrations by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) from July 26 onwards, and that all notices served were issued before that date.The clarification came after lawyers representing several students and protesters claimed that police were continuing the investigation by issuing notices and recording statements despite the Maharashtra government’s assurance that cases against peaceful protesters would be withdrawn.Advocate Vikrant Khare, representing several students and protesters along with a group of Bombay High Court lawyers, said police were proceeding with the investigation as no formal directions had been issued to halt the process.He urged senior police officials and the state government to issue interim instructions to suspend further proceedings until a formal order withdrawing the cases is passed.Police, however, maintained that no fresh notices have been issued since July 26 and that any notices served were issued before that date.
