Mumbai: Immigration officials intercepted Afghan, Bangladeshi and Nepalese nationals at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Saturday and Sunday for allegedly obtaining Indian passports using forged documents and false information. Sahar police said the passports were issued in Mumbai and Kolkata, allegedly with agents’ help. Police are seeking details of those involved. All three were arrested.Bangladeshi national Robindra Mondal (48) was handed over to police on Oct 3 after allegedly attempting to travel to Abu Dhabi on an Indian passport. He was scheduled to take Etihad flight EY207 and proceed to Paris. Immigration records allegedly linked him to two Bangladeshi passports issued in Dhaka under the name Rabindra Mondol, listing his birthplace as Munshiganj, Bangladesh, and date of birth as June 12, 1978. Officials said he admitted entering India illegally and obtaining Aadhaar and PAN cards and an Indian passport. He allegedly secured passport AP-472113 from Kolkata on May 11, 2026, using false details.Nepalese national Deepak Giri (40), who arrived from Kathmandu on flight 6E1158 on Oct 3, was questioned after checks showed frequent travel to Kathmandu and he failed to provide satisfactory information. Records showed Giri was born in Ramechhap, Nepal, held Nepalese citizenship and married a Nepalese citizen in Manthali Municipality on Dec 14, 2022. His parents had moved to Mumbai in 1980. He allegedly obtained an Indian passport from Mumbai on Sept 16, 2021, using false or incorrect information.Afghan national Taza Khan Zurmati was stopped on Oct 4 while allegedly attempting to fly to Dubai as Ibrahim Khan on flight 6E-1451. Afghan visa stickers in his Indian passport prompted questioning. A biometric search found two Afghan passports in the names of Taza Khan Zurmati and Taza Khan. Records showed he entered India on a medical attendant visa on May 19, 2016, returned to Afghanistan on Oct 15, 2016, and re-entered India for treatment on Sept 5, 2017.Police said he overstayed after his visa expired and later obtained Aadhaar, PAN and voter ID cards. Using these documents and false information, he allegedly secured Indian passports from Mumbai Passport Office in 2018 and 2019 under the name Ibrahim Khan.
