Mrinaltai Gore flyover extension will improve travel time from 45 mins to 10 mins, says Mumbai Mayor

Mumbai: The extension of the Mrinaltai Gore flyover at Goregaon (West) that is between Ram Mandir Marg and Relief Road was inaugurated by Mayor Ritu Tawde on Saturday morning and was thrown open to traffic by evening. The extension to the flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion in Goregaon, including on Swami Vivekanand Marg and surrounding areas. The 750-metre-long flyover extension will improve travel time from the earlier 45 minutes to 10 minutes, Tawde said. The construction of the flyover extension commenced in March 2019 and was to be completed in 24 months. Tawde said that due to various reasons and challenges, work on the extension flyover was delayed. However, henceforth care should be taken that no project work is delayed. Even if a work is delayed, the project has to be completed within the fixed cost, Tawde said. BJP MLA Ameet Satam suggested that the administration should henceforth take care that work on infrastructure projects is not delayed under any circumstances.Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray complained about the quality of the road surface on X. Similarly, Mumbai Congress president Varsha Gaikwad wrote on X: “Why is there patchwork already on a newly laid road? This whole stretch looks so badly done. It might develop craters with just one rainfall.”As part of the extension of the flyover, the existing bridge over the Walbhat River was demolished and reconstructed. Also, as part of integration of the extensions with the existing Mrunaltai Gore Railway Flyover, improvement of the approach road of approximately 450 metres in length, with four lanes, was carried out. The total length of the extended bridge is 750 metres, while the width is 15.50 metres. The civic administration pointed out that while carrying out the project, obtaining police traffic permission was difficult due to dense population, extremely busy junctions and traffic density. Considering the request of local residents to make changes in the landing of the flyover on the main road, the design of the bridge was improved as per the General Arrangement Drawing (GAD), which included the alignment and length. The alignment of this flyover passes over the Walbhat River and the Oshiwara River.
