Rajkot: A six-year-old girl was rescued within two hours of allegedly being kidnapped from near her home in the Metoda GIDC area on Saturday after her mother immediately alerted the police through the 112 emergency helpline. Police arrested a 36-year-old man, Vikram Gaur, who allegedly lured the child with an ice cream and took her to an isolated area.Rajkot Rural SP Vijaysinh Gurjar said the mother’s prompt action proved crucial.Police found CCTV footage showing the girl walking behind a man. While analysing the route, a team heard a child crying from a bushy, isolated stretch along the Khirsara-Metoda road. They rushed to the spot and allegedly found Gaur using force against the girl. They intervened, rescued the child and arrested him at the scene.Preliminary investigation revealed that Gaur allegedly offered the girl an ice cream, kidnapped her from near her house and took her about 1.5 to 2km away. Police said he allegedly attempted to sexually assault the minor before officers arrived.Gaur, originally from Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, had earlier worked as a casual labourer in Rajkot rural areas for around three years. Police said he is the father of a three-year-old girl.Medical examinations of the accused and the child were conducted. Police said the girl’s medical examination did not suggest sexual assault.Police seized Gaur’s mobile phone and reportedly found porn-related searches in its browsing history.Metoda police registered a case under Sections 137(2), 65(2), 74 and 76 of BNS and under Pocso Act.
