Ahmedabad: For the second consecutive day, the state recorded progress of the southwest monsoon. While the northern limit passed through Porbandar and Vallabh Vidyanagar on Thursday, the limit reached Jamnagar as rain covered the majority of central Gujarat districts. Conditions are favourable for further progress in the remaining parts of north Gujarat and Kutch district, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).Ahmedabad city on Friday experienced an overcast sky for the majority of the day. It resulted in a sharp drop in the maximum temperature, which reached 32.2°C, 3.8 degrees lower than normal. It is notable that till July 1, the city experienced maximum temperatures around 40°C. The arrival of the monsoon gave the citizens respite from scorching heat. It, however, also resulted in a rise in relative humidity (RH), which was 72% at 8. 30am and 71% at 5. 30pm on Friday.The IMD forecast for the city for Saturday indicated chances of a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.While rain is expected across the state, the favourable weather system will result in heavy to very heavy and at times extremely heavy rainfall in parts of south Gujarat and coastal Saurashtra for the next three days, including Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad and Bhavnagar. Likewise, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Amreli, Junagadh and Gir Somnath. Other parts of the state may experience moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds, according to the IMD forecast.
