Monsoon prep: MC asked to finish cleaning road gullies by June 30

Times News NetworkMohali: In a bid to strengthen the city’s drainage system ahead of the monsoon, mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana on Monday carried out an extensive inspection of blocked road gullies and resource management centre (RMC) points across the city. He was accompanied by the MC commissioner and the chief engineer during the daylong exercise.The Mayor directed MC officials to finish cleaning all road gullies by June 30 to ensure smooth flow of rainwater and prevent waterlogging. He instructed officers to regularly monitor drainage infrastructure and identify vulnerable locations where water accumulation is likely to occur.Reviewing the status of desilting and cleaning operations, he emphasised the need for timely completion of work. He added that the MC was making every possible effort to improve drainage facilities and ensure residents did not face inconvenience during the monsoon.“Preventing waterlogging in low-lying areas is our top priority. All departments concerned have been directed to complete cleaning of road gullies on time and remain vigilant during the rainy season. We are committed to providing better civic infrastructure and ensuring that rainwater is drained efficiently,” the mayor said.He also inspected CCTV cameras installed at various RMC points and directed officials to ensure that all cameras remain functional. The surveillance system, he said, would help identify individuals who dump garbage outside designated collection points and contribute to unhygienic conditions. Strict action was ordered against violators, with instructions to intensify monitoring at locations where waste is frequently discarded in the open.Stressing the importance of public participation in maintaining cleanliness, the mayor underlined the need for civic discipline and cooperation from residents to keep the city clean and prevent garbage accumulation around RMC sites.MC officials assured him that all directions issued during the inspection would be implemented within the stipulated timeframe, with special attention paid to drainage management and sanitation measures ahead of the monsoon season.
