Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is unlikely to attend the Oct 10 Mahalaya event at Eden Gardens, is expected to arrive in Kolkata on Saptami and attend Kumari Puja and offer anjali at Belur Math on Ashtami, according to sources.The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has not yet issued an official statement or released a confirmed itinerary for Modi’s visit to West Bengal during Durga Puja.The initial plan was for Modi to launch the state’s Durga Puja celebrations at Eden Gardens on Mahalaya evening.The proposed event included a stadium procession, virtual inaugurations of prominent Kolkata pujas, a drone show, a performance by singer Shreya Ghoshal, a roadshow along Red Road and a cultural display featuring 1,000 women performing uludhvani alongside 10,000 traditional drummers.However, Modi is now unlikely to attend the Mahalaya event. Following discussions between state govt representatives and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) officials, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to attend in his place.
