MNF accuses ZPM govt of stalling Lengpui land scam probe

Aizawl: Mizo National Front (MNF), the main opposition party in Mizoram, on Friday accused Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) govt of failing to hand over the alleged land scam case involving the acquisition of private lands at Lengpui in Aizawl district to the CBI for probe, as earlier announced. The party alleged that the govt was trying to fizzle out the case, which involves over Rs 187.90 crore.Vice chairperson of MNF Legal Board, Lalpianfela Chawngthu, told media persons that although the state govt’s vigilance department issued a notification on Feb 23 granting consent for a CBI investigation, the process was incomplete. “The state govt should formally seek CBI probe by sending the notification along with a forwarding letter appealing to the director of the central investigating agency to take up the case,” Chawngthu said.He accused land revenue and settlement minister B Lalchhanzova of misleading the public when he recently told the state assembly that the Lengpui land acquisition process was expedited due to the Pahalgam and Sindoor issues. “When the note sheet from the land revenue and settlement department was accessed through the Right to Information Act, 2005, there was no mention of the Pahalgam and Sindoor issues in the file,” Chawngthu said.He added that since a private member resolution on the land scam was adopted by the state legislature, MNF would pursue the matter to its conclusion.Chawngthu further accused ZPM administration of diluting the provisions and spirit of the Right to Information Act, 2005, alleging that replies to RTI queries were being delayed and accurate information was being withheld at the behest of ministers.
