Gorakhpur: Researchers at Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT) have secured an Indian design patent for an innovative micro wind turbine designed for installation on urban rooftops. The design, titled “Micro Wind Turbine for Urban Rooftops,” was developed by Virendra Kumar and Pallav Gupta of the department of mechanical engineering. The patent recognises the turbine’s unique shape and configuration, which is intended to facilitate small-scale wind energy generation in densely populated urban areas.Unlike conventional wind turbines that require large open spaces, the compact design is suitable for deployment on residential, commercial and institutional buildings. Researchers said the turbine was specifically conceived to address space constraints in cities while enabling the utilisation of locally available wind resources for supplementary power generation. The researchers believe the patented design offers significant potential for future product development, technology commercialisation and industry-academia collaboration in the renewable energy sector.
