Aizawl: Mizoram information & public relations minister B. Lalchhanzova on Thursday called for a unified information machinery to highlight the state’s economic progress and tourism boom, at a meeting of the Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC).The meeting was organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), ministry of information & broadcasting.Lalchhanzova emphasised the need for closer alignment between central and state govt media wings to project Mizoram’s growth stories on national and global platforms, and urged media bodies to establish a cohesive narrative blueprint.Addressing senior officials from the PIB, All India Radio, Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), and the state I&PR department, he said institutional synergy was needed to eliminate silos, and that the success of policies depends on public awareness and localised delivery at the village level. He underscored the importance of English broadcasting to widen national circulation of Mizoram’s infrastructure and development updates, and cited a 97% surge in tourist arrivals, linked to the integration of Aizawl into the national railway network via the Bairabi-Sairang railway line.“Mizoram has a powerful story to share with the rest of the country. Our media units must proactively broadcast Aizawl’s reputation as a uniquely disciplined, honking-free ‘Silent City’ and promote our state as one of India’s safest destinations for women travellers. Central media channels like PIB, AIR, and DDK must drive this momentum further ,” said the minister. He highlighted infrastructure projects for wider projection, including plans to transform Thenzawl into a peace tourism hub through upgraded golf courses and a Rs 36 crore elevated ropeway project. The minister also pointed to sustainable tourism efforts, including ITDC-backed Tribal Homestay initiatives and collaboration with the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) to manage visitor engagement. The IMPCC was established by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to coordinate with media in every state to publicise govt department activities. Thursday’s meeting was the second this year; an earlier meeting was held in June at the AIR Conference Hall, and another is planned for Aug.Topics discussed included increasing publications in English and Hindi alongside Mizo, creating more awareness about the Goods & Services Tax (GST) among the Mizo people, and disseminating more information on the harmful effects of substance abuse.
