Aizawl: Mizoram governor Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh and CM Lalduhoma expressed grief over the death of former governor Lt. Gen. Madan Mohan Lakhera, remembering him as a distinguished constitutional authority and widely respected leader.Lakhera died on Monday at a private hospital in Dehradun. He was 88.In a condolence message, Gen. Singh said he was “profoundly shocked and deeply saddened” by Lakhera’s death. Lakhera served as the governor of Mizoram from July 2006 to Sept 2011.“May his soul rest in eternal peace. My sincere condolences to the bereaved family. Mizoram stands with you in this time of grief and will forever honour his cherished legacy,” the Governor said.Recalling Lakhera’s tenure, Gen. Singh said he discharged his constitutional responsibilities with distinction, prioritising good governance, transparency and public welfare.CM Lalduhoma also mourned Lakhera’s death, describing him as “a true gentleman and a widely respected leader.”“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Lt. Gen. M.M. Lakhera, former governor of Mizoram. My heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace,” Lalduhoma said.Lakhera had served in the Indian Army before taking up gubernatorial and administrative roles. Born in Jakhand in present-day Uttarakhand on Oct 21, 1937, he took part in the Goa operation in 1961 and the Indo-Pakistan wars of 1965 and 1971 in the Jammu & Kashmir sector.He took over as Lieutenant Governor and Administrator of Puducherry on July 7, 2004, and later held additional charge as Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, taking oath on November 29, 2005.Lakhera was governor of Mizoram from July 25, 2006 to Sept 1, 2011.
