Mizoram eyes Israel collab to develop water sector

Aizawl: Mizoram and Israel are exploring collaboration to strengthen the state’s water sector, including the supply of safe drinking water, wastewater treatment, water source conservation and environmental protection, an official statement said on Wednesday.The proposal was discussed during a meeting between public health engineering minister Prof. Lalnilawma and Neeraj Gahlawat, senior water resources specialist of Mashav– Israel’s agency for international development cooperation, under the embassy of Israel, at Mizoram House in New Delhi on Tuesday.During the meeting, the minister invited Mashav officials to visit Mizoram to gain first-hand knowledge of the state’s water scenario and identify areas where practical cooperation could begin without delay.The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the Mizoram govt and the Israel embassy, under the India-Israel development cooperation programme, particularly in the water sector.Representatives of the Israel embassy said they were keen to extend its collaboration with Mizoram by sharing advanced technologies and expertise in water management, similar to initiatives already being implemented with the Centre and several other state govts.
