Mizoram CM expresses solidarity with flood victims

Aizawl: Mizoram CM Lalduhoma on Wednesday expressed deep sympathy with the people of Assam over the devastating floods that have recently struck the state.Speaking as chief guest at the student induction programme at a university in Guwahati, Lalduhoma said the people of Mizoram stand in solidarity with those who have lost their lives, remain missing or have been displaced by the calamity.He said although Mizoram and Assam are separate states, they share a close and interdependent relationship. “We depend on each other in many ways, pursue common developmental aspirations and maintain strong people-to-people ties,” he said, adding that many Assamese reside in Mizoram while numerous Mizos live, work and study in Assam.Recalling his attendance at the Rongali Bihu celebration organised by the Assam Culture Society of Mizoram in May 2024, Lalduhoma said he conveyed his wishes for continued peace and harmony among the Assamese community in Mizoram. He stressed that maintaining cordial relations between the two neighbouring states is essential, and both chief ministers share the view that strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation must remain a priority.
