Mizoram, Assam tourism ministers meet to boost tourism

Aizawl: Mizoram tourism minister Lalnghinglova Hmar and his Assam counterpart Ajanta Neog, who met in Guwahati on Saturday, agreed that the two neighbouring states should work together in boosting the tourism sector, an official statement said.Hmar told Neog that tourist footfall in the state has increased after Mizoram capital Aizawl got rail connectivity in Sept last year. “As a high majority of the tourists visiting the state are from Assam, the need for better cooperation and coordination between the two states arises,” Hmar said and expressed hope that stable cooperation will be possible.The Assam minister also supported better cooperation between the two neighbouring states in the tourism sector, saying it would benefit both states.The ministers agreed to work together through their respective tourism departments and said all northeastern states should have better cooperation and coordination to bring about visible development in tourism across the region.Hmar apprised the Assam minister of tourism events and festivals being planned by the Mizoram govt and invited Neog to visit the state and participate in the events, to which she agreed, the statement said.Hmar also attended the two-day “Imaginarium 2.0 – North East Events & Entertainment Leaders’ Summit” in Guwahati, which brought together leaders from event management, tourism and hospitality.
