Kolkata: A 30-year-old man from Murshidabad, missing in Chennai for 18 months, has been traced with help from a former senior BSNL official and Ham Radio enthusiasts.Sekabul Sheikh, a resident of Sridharpur in Murshidabad diagnosed with memory loss two years ago, went missing after travelling to Chennai on leave from his Delhi job. While wandering in Chennai, he was picked up by police after residents suspected him of theft. Following court directions, he was placed at a Greater Chennai Corporation-run homeless shelter, where he stayed for 18 months.Breakthrough came when a retired senior BSNL official from Kolkata visited the shelter during a charity drive, noticed Sheikh, and alerted West Bengal Radio Club (WBRC).“Through our Ham radio network, we traced Sekabul’s home to Murshidabad and arranged a video call with his parents,” WBRC secretary Ambarish Nag Biswas told TOI. Sheikh’s family has left for Chennai to bring him back.
