Silchar: Assam minister Kaushik Rai inspected Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Monday and inaugurated its newly installed advanced CT scan machine.Rai reviewed patient facilities, cleanliness and the hospital’s overall functioning. He also spoke with patients and their families about the services they received and the difficulties they faced, directing the authorities to address their concerns.“People requiring advanced diagnostic tests should not have to travel outside the region whenever such facilities are needed. The new CT scan machine will help patients get diagnosis done here and enable doctors to take treatment decisions more quickly,” Rai said.He said Assam govt, led by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was focused on strengthening medical infrastructure and improving patients’ experience at govt health institutions.Rai later inspected the construction of Cachar’s integrated district commissioner’s office and reviewed its progress. Cachar DC Rahul Kumar Gupta and PWD (Building) officials accompanied him.The minister reviewed the construction schedule and directed officials and the contractor to complete the project on time without compromising quality.“Whether it is a hospital providing services to patients or a govt building under construction, our responsibility is to ensure that the work on the ground matches the expectations of the people. We have to identify shortcomings, respond to people’s concerns and ensure that projects are completed on time,” he said.Rai said field visits helped the administration assess ground realities and identify problems that might not be reflected in official reports. He added that inspections would continue, with departments expected to act on issues affecting public services and project deadlines.
