Silchar: Assam minister Kaushik Rai cut a finger and fainted during a BJP meeting on Sunday night.The incident occurred at the party’s Cachar district office during scrutiny of ward feedback for candidate selection in the Silchar Municipal Corporation election.Sources said Ratabari MLA Bijoy Malakar was opening a piggy bank containing paper slips with a cutter when the blade accidentally sliced Rai’s finger as he assisted him. Bleeding profusely, Rai fainted and was taken to a hospital.He was discharged on Monday and is stable. Doctors attributed the episode to vasovagal syncope, commonly called reflex fainting—a temporary condition that can be triggered by pain, emotional stress or the sight of blood. The incident came to light on Tuesday.
