Margao: PWD minister Digambar Kamat on Thursday rated the Mhaje Ghar scheme among the top three govt initiatives making a tangible difference to Goan lives, saying it addressed one of man’s most fundamental needs — shelter.Speaking at the Goa Revolution Day celebration at Lohia Maidan, Margao, Kamat drew a parallel between the Centre and the state’s flagship programmes. “Food and shelter are the basic necessities of man. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured nobody goes to bed hungry by providing free ration to the poor, chief minister Pramod Sawant aims to provide a roof over the head of the homeless with the Mhaje Ghar scheme,” he said.Kamat said the scheme aims to address the common man’s primary aspiration. “Everyone wants a home of their own — at least before the end of one’s life. It is to fulfil this dream of the common man that the govt has launched the Mhaje Ghar scheme,” he said.MLAs Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Ulhas Tuenkar, South Goa collector Egna Cleetus, SP Tikam Singh Verma, and former Union minister Eduardo Faleiro were among those present.
