Aizawl: A joint team of Serchhip police, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Mizoram Police’s CID (Special Branch) seized 14.26 kg of methamphetamine, estimated at 1.5 lakh tablets, near Tuichang Lei bridge in Serchhip district late Wednesday night.A 29-year-old Myanmar national, Lalpanliana of Falam in Chin State, was arrested in connection with the alleged trafficking of the contraband.Police said they received intelligence from sister agencies on Tuesday about a large consignment of drugs being transported near East Lungdar village. A joint operation was launched by Serchhip police, the NCB’s Aizawl field office under the Agartala Zonal Unit, the district special branch and the CID (Special Branch).The team, led by Serchhip Sub-Divisional Police Officer Lalrinzuali and NCB intelligence officer Dulal Paul, intercepted Lalpanliana near Tuichang Lei bridge around 11.30 pm on Wednesday, Sept 2.The methamphetamine was allegedly recovered from his possession. NCB officials estimated the market value of the seized contraband at Rs 11.41 crore.The NCB will take over the investigation, police officials said.
