Met: City to stay warm, humid over next 5 days

Kolkata: The city would stay warm and humid over the next five days, with a possibility of the maximum temperature reaching 37°C in this scorching spell, warned the Met office. While thunderstorms occurred at some places in Murshidabad, Nadia and Birbhum and in north Bengal, they will now be localised and few. With no significant rain-triggering system here, the mercury would rise, said weathermen.Kolkata on Saturday recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2°C, a degree below normal, and minimum of 27.3°C, a notch above normal. The real feel temperature, or how the heat actually felt on the skin, crossed 38°C. “The maximum may climb up to 35°C on Sunday and the week will be warm and uncomfortable. The sunray intensity will be high. There is no relief in sight for at least the next five days,” said Regional Meteorological Centre weather scientist Sourish Bandopadhyay.Dry westerly and northwesterly winds are blowing into south Bengal and Kolkata. Solar heating will add to it. “While some neighbouring districts may receive thunderstorms, Kolkata is likely to remain dry,” added Bandopadhyay.
