Varanasi: Member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Parth Biswas, and director of the commission Uttam Prakash, visited Banaras Hindu University on Monday and interacted with teachers, non-teaching staff and students.The discussions focused on issues concerning the Scheduled Caste community, facilities available at the university, status of posts, and matters related to teachers, employees and students.At the meeting, BHU vice-chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said it was a matter of pride for the university community that a person associated with the field of education was serving as a member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. He said open dialogue is essential for understanding issues related to rules and laws, and the experience and knowledge of commission members can help in finding solutions.Prof Chaturvedi said that around 300 teachers from the Scheduled Caste community are working at the university. He added that, given the significant participation of the community at BHU, continuous efforts should be made to achieve excellence in every field. Regular interaction, he said, helps in understanding issues and exploring new ways to address them.Parth Biswas referred to the compilation of data and information related to the university. During the interaction, Scheduled Caste students shared concerns related to fee payment at the time of admission, scholarships, academic guidance, counselling and support.Biswas also visited university hostels and interacted with students to understand their requirements and experiences. He met students enrolled under the Dr Ambedkar Centre of Excellence Scheme. The commission members expressed satisfaction with the activities being undertaken at the university for students and employees of the SC category.During the visit, the commission representatives also interacted with concerned officials and gathered information on various matters related to Scheduled Caste students and employees. They later proceeded to the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU).The programme was coordinated by Motichand Prasad, PRO and deputy registrar, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Cell, BHU.
