Shillong: The Meghalaya Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) seized 40.12 grams of heroin, valued at around Rs 7 lakh in the illicit market, and arrested two alleged carriers in Shillong’s Pynthorumkhrah area on Monday.“Acting on credible intelligence inputs regarding the transportation of narcotics from Silchar, Assam, to Shillong for delivery, the state ANTF deployed its personnel at strategic locations in the area. During the operation, a vehicle… was intercepted at Pynthorumkhrah,” an ANTF statement said.The arrested persons were identified as Jamir Hussain Laskar, a resident of Pangram in Assam’s Cachar district, and Joy Ryntathiang of Umkdait, Nongmensong, Shillong.“Upon search of the vehicle and its occupants, four soap boxes containing substances subsequently tested positive for heroin were found,” the ANTF said.“The contraband was seized and both accused persons were arrested after observing all mandatory legal formalities under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband and to identify other persons associated with the trafficking network,” the ANTF stated.“The successful operation reflects the unwavering commitment of the state ANTF and Meghalaya Police to disrupting narcotics supply chains and dismantling organised drug-trafficking networks operating in and through the state. Meghalaya Police remains resolute in its efforts to combat the menace of drugs and protect the youth and communities,” the statement said.The statement was issued by Vikash Kumar, superintendent of police, ANTF, Meghalaya.
