MUMBAI: The ministry of external affairs (MEA) Mumbai branch secretariat in collaboration with Advanced Centre for treatment, research and education in cancer (ACTREC) at the ata Memorial Centre (TMC) organized an exposure visit for consul generals from global south countries to explore ways of collaboration in cancer care, research and capacity building.Consul generals from Afghanistan, Egypt, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, other consulate officials from Bangladesh, Columbia, Yemen were present for this exposure visit.TMC is an aided institute under the department of atomic energy. Talking about health diplomacy, an important aspect of India’s engagement with global south countries, Swapnil Thorat, head of MEA’s of the branch secretariat in Mumbai apprised CGs on various initiatives taken by the central govt to promote self-reliance and sustainable growth among partner countries.Dr Sudeep Gupta, director at TMC said that such an initiative will boost collaboration with countries that share the same socio-economic issues as India.Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi, director, ACTREC and Dr Navin Khattry, deputy director ACTREC apprised officials on ACTREC’s journey so far, international collaboration, pioneering initiatives taken by ACTREC in cancer care and research.The interaction was followed by a discussion and curated tour of advanced cancer treatment facilities and child care cancer hospital, arranged by ACTREC officials within premises.
