Gurgaon: MCG is running out of time in completing road projects under its clean air plan. While administrative approvals, tenders and work orders have covered most of the planned network, nearly 55% of the target in 2026 is yet to be completed.The civic body has set a target of redeveloping a total of 611km of roads out of which 396km of roads is the target set for 2026 and 215km is the target for 2027 under the plan submitted to Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). Of this, redevelopment has been completed on 179km, accounting for just 45.2% of the target. This leaves 217km — or 54.8% — yet to be redeveloped.The CAQM clean air plan was reviewed at a meeting on Tuesday at the MCG office under the chairmanship of commissioner Pradeep Dahiya. At the meeting, officials reviewed measures aimed at improving air quality and controlling road dust. The meeting also covered construction and demolition (C&D) waste management, mechanical road sweeping and real-time pollution monitoring. Till Aug 31 this year, a total of 3.4 lakh tonnes of C&D waste was collected for offtake. Emphasis was placed on installing web cameras for monitoring C&D waste in accordance with the directions of CAQM, officials said.Dahiya said, “Special attention is being given to road dust management, sweeping, water sprinkling, anti-smog guns, dust-free roads and scientific management of C&D waste to control air pollution in the city.” He directed all departments and agencies to accelerate their work through mutual coordination in accordance with the targets set for the year. He stressed ensuring the availability of necessary resources before the upcoming GRAP period and ensuring that pollution-control measures are implemented effectively.Officials said MCG is placing special emphasis on mechanical road sweeping to control road dust. A total road network of 404.6km has been identified as suitable for mechanical sweeping. At present, 24 machines are available. An MCG official said, “All machines are equipped with GPS-based route monitoring, while field officials also maintain daily performance logs and conduct manual verification. The procurement and deployment of additional road-sweeping resources before the implementation of GRAP during winter was also discussed.”The availability of water sprinklers and anti-smog guns for air pollution control was also reviewed. MCG has 40 water sprinklers available, including resources that can be hired as required during the GRAP period, said officials. Similarly, 10 truck-mounted and three tractor-mounted anti-smog guns are available.
