Chandigarh: In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in civic administration, the municipal corporation (MC) has made body-worn cameras mandatory for all enforcement branch personnel during field operations. The initiative, which officials described as a step towards technology-driven and citizen-centric governance, is intended to ensure transparent enforcement practices, strengthen public confidence and create a fair and accountable system of civic administration.Under the new arrangement, every enforcement action will be digitally recorded, providing verifiable evidence of official proceedings and helping maintain greater transparency during field operations.Body cameras have been issued to sub-inspectors, drivers, labourers and other staff of the enforcement department. Officials will now be required to wear the devices during all enforcement drives to record interactions and document official actions on the ground.Mayor Saurabh Joshi said the decision was taken to safeguard the interests of both citizens and enforcement personnel, minimise disputes, prevent untoward incidents and ensure that enforcement actions remain fair, impartial and transparent.“The recordings will serve as an authentic and reliable record of enforcement activities, facilitate objective review whenever required, enhance institutional accountability and further strengthen public trust in the functioning of the municipal corporation Chandigarh,” he said.Blurb: Every enforcement drive to be digitally recorded as MC seeks to boost transparency, accountability and public trust
