Chandigarh: The municipal corporation Friday intensified its enforcement drive against vendors operating from unauthorised locations and removed 112 vendors found vending from sites other than those allotted to them.The action was part of a zone-wise campaign aimed at streamlining street vending and enforcing the designated vending-site system.MC officials said the vendors had already been allotted vending pitches through the draw-of-lots process but continued to operate from their old locations. The civic body maintained that vending outside designated sites would not be allowed.The enforcement teams carried out the drive across various parts of the city and removed vendors from unauthorised spots.The MC commissioner directed field staff to maintain strict vigilance and prevent the evicted vendors from reoccupying the locations.Reiterating its stance on regulated street vending, the corporation said it was committed to ensuring an orderly vending system while keeping public spaces free from unauthorised occupation and encroachments.
