Mohali: Amid mounting complaints over garbage accumulation across the city, Mohali mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana Thursday announced the formation of special teams to identify those involved in illegal waste dumping and promised that all Resource Management Centre (RMC) sites would be cleared of accumulated garbage by Aug 15.The mayor said unauthorised dumping along roadsides and in open spaces had emerged as a major civic concern, alleging that some private garbage collectors engaged by housing societies and institutions were disposing of waste at various locations during the night.“The teams have been tasked with identifying the offenders so that appropriate action can be taken. As far as the RMCs are concerned, they will be cleared by Aug 15,” Samana said.He added that the municipal corporation was also processing legacy waste at four locations, including Jagatpura and Shahimajra, as part of efforts to address the city’s waste management crisis. A DPR is also being prepared to make the Samgaoli waste processing plant functional, he said.The announcement comes amid growing concern over overflowing RMCs, uncollected waste and illegal dumping on vacant plots and roadsides.
