Mann to meet protesting govt employees tomorrow

Chandigarh: Amid ongoing protests by Punjab govt employees, chief minister Bhagwant Mann is likely to meet representatives of the employees’ unions on Friday.The employees are seeking the release of pending dearness allowance (DA) and restoration of the old pension scheme (OPS).Sukhchain Singh Khaira, coordinator of the joint action committee of employees, confirmed that CM Mann had scheduled a meeting with the employees.Earlier, the employees’ unions were planning to hold a news conference on Thursday regarding recent statements by members of the Cabinet sub-committee on the employees’ demands.On Aug 27, govt operations were paralysed in Punjab as more than 3 lakh employees struck work. The same day, CM Mann was scheduled to meet a delegation of the employees. However, before the meeting, he posted on his X, “Employees are an important part of our family, and we are ready to listen to every legitimate concern of theirs…But dialogue and strikes cannot proceed together…”“Govt is committed to resolving every issue, but dialogue will only take place once the strike is called off,” Mann added.
