Times News NetworkLudhiana: Daba police have arrested a man for allegedly strangling his 50-year-old mother to death in Basant Nagar area of Shimlapuri. The accused had initially claimed that the woman died of a heart attack, but an autopsy conducted on Monday confirmed that it was a case of murder.The accused has been identified as Parwinder Singh, while the deceased woman was Manpreet Kaur. Police said the woman was living separately from her husband along with her sons. According to police, the incident came to light after Parwinder Singh took his mother to the Ludhiana civil hospital on Sunday, stating that she had suffered a cardiac arrest. Doctors, however, declared the woman brought dead. As per procedure, a post-mortem examination was conducted on Monday, which revealed internal injuries on the body. The autopsy report confirmed that the woman had been brutally thrashed and died due to strangulation.SI Pramod Raj, SHO of Daba police station, said that when the accused was questioned following the autopsy findings, he confessed to the crime. During interrogation, Parwinder reportedly told police that he had asked his mother for money, which she refused to give. Police said he allegedly wanted money for drugs.Following the refusal, the accused reportedly assaulted his mother and strangled her to death. On the basis of the confession and autopsy report, police registered a case of murder and arrested the accused. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
