Ahmedabad: A 40-year-old Fatehwadi resident was admitted to the trauma ward of Sola Civil Hospital early on Saturday after being shot in what he believes was a retaliatory attack linked to a long-standing dispute involving his estranged wife.The victim, who lives near the Fatehwadi canal area, stated in a complaint lodged with Vejalpur police that he was sitting outside his house around 3am with a relative after heavy rain when three men approached near a vacant shop. He alleged that one of them pulled out a pistol and opened fire on him.The bullets struck his right arm near the elbow and the right side of his torso, causing serious injuries. The attackers fled the spot, after which emergency services were contacted, and he was rushed in a 108 ambulance to Sola Civil Hospital, where he remains conscious and is undergoing treatment.

In his complaint, the victim alleged that the incident stemmed from hostility dating back to 2017, when he was lodged in Porbandar jail under PASA and his wife allegedly left him and began living with his friend. He said he later obtained a divorce, but tensions persisted, including a court case involving his former wife’s brother. He further claimed that he had recently refused reconciliation efforts, following which the accused allegedly damaged his two-wheeler and threatened on the phone to shoot him.Police said a complaint has been registered and efforts are underway to trace the three accused.
