Man robbed of Rs34,500, assaulted after argument over being addressed by name

Pune: A 27-year-old Bibvewadi resident was allegedly assaulted, bitten by a dog, forced into a car and robbed of Rs34,500 after a late-night argument in Bibvewadi on Sept 30.The victim approached Bibvewadi police on Thursday and lodged a complaint. The police have registered a case under sections 309 (robbery) and 291 (negligent conduct with respect to animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).An officer from Bibvewadi police said the complainant owns a four-wheeler service station. In the early hours of Sept 30, he was returning home when he met one of the three accused. An argument broke out after the complainant addressed him by his name instead of calling him “bhau”.“The accused slapped him and let his dog loose on him. The dog bit him on both legs. The accused then called the others to the spot in a car. They forced him into the car and assaulted him. They also robbed him of Rs34,500, which the complainant’s father had given him to deposit as a home-loan instalment in a bank,” the officer said.The trio took the complainant to a locality in Bibvewadi and assaulted him again. When a local resident came to the complainant’s aid, the trio also assaulted him. One of the three accused then dropped the complainant near his scooter, from where they had picked him. “The complainant initially told his parents that he had met with an accident. He took treatment for the dog bites and then approached us,” the officer said.
