Varanasi: A 57-year-old man died after allegedly being assaulted during a dispute between cousins in Mishra Mohalla of Rustampur village under the Chaubepur police station area on Wednesday evening. He was allegedly punched on the nose during the altercation and died while being taken to hospital.According to police, Azad Mishra was sitting on a chair outside his house when he had an argument with his cousin, Nagendra. During the altercation, Nagendra allegedly punched Azad on the nose. Azad was seriously injured and fell to the ground.Family members rushed him to hospital, but he died on the way. After receiving information, police reached the spot, took the body into custody and sent it for postmortem examination.SHO Anil Kumar Sharma said the accused had been taken into custody and was being questioned. Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident and the reason behind the assault.Family members said Azad worked in Bihar and had returned home about four days ago. His wife, Madhu, is around 50 years old. The couple had no children.Relatives alleged that a dispute between the two sides had been going on for some time. They also claimed that complaints had earlier been made several times against Nagendra at the Chiraigaon police outpost, but effective action was not taken in time.Police said further legal action would be taken on the basis of the post-mortem report and the facts that emerge during the investigation.
