Rajkot: Rajkot Rural police have arrested a man from Ahmedabad for allegedly impersonating a govt official and attempting to extort money from a factory owner in Jetpur.The accused, Rajesh alias Raju Trivedi, posed as an officer from the labour and employment department at the secretariat in Gandhinagar and threatened to shut down the factory for employing child labourers.According to police, Trivedi demanded Rs 40,000 from factory owner Meet Bhuva (25) and collected Rs 10,000 as an initial payment. He told Bhuva that a closure notice would be issued if the remaining Rs 30,000 was not paid through an angadia.The incident came to light after a team from the anti-human trafficking unit raided a factory in Jetpur and rescued child labourers. Following the raid, Bhuva received a call from an unknown number. The caller introduced himself as ‘Patel Saheb’ from the labour and employment department and claimed that action had been initiated against the factory.Police said Trivedi later met Bhuva in person and intimidated him by accusing him of employing children and failing to provide them with adequate food. Later, he demanded Rs 40,000 to prevent a closure notice from being issued.
