Pune: Sangvi police on Tuesday registered a case against a man from Badlapur in Thane district for allegedly duping a woman (44) of Rs 2.2 lakh between March last year and Sept.The fraudster promised to help the woman repay an outstanding car loan. She lodged a complaint on Tuesday.An officer from Sangvi police said the woman had got a vehicle loan from a private sector bank. In March last year, the suspect, posing as an official of the bank’s Bund Garden branch, contacted her and assured her that he would help her pay off the outstanding before the loan was scheduled to end.“The suspect took money from the woman into different bank accounts, citing various reasons,” the officer said.The officer said the woman continued paying the EMIs on her car loan while transferring money to the accused. She later became suspicious and visited the bank’s branch, where she found that no such person worked there. She also found that her car loan had not been foreclosed.
