Vasco: A resident of Zuarinagar, Sancoale, was allegedly cheated of Rs 1.5 lakh in an online scam after downloading an .APK file on his mobile phone to pay a gas bill.In a complaint to Verna police, Pavan Chauhan stated that on July 23 at 10.38am, he received a WhatsApp message claiming his Adani gas bill was pending and warning that his gas connection would be disconnected if payment was not made.The sender allegedly persuaded him to install an .APK file shared via WhatsApp for payment. After the installation, the accused allegedly gained unauthorised access to his phone and banking credentials and fraudulently debited Rs 1.5 lakh from his HDFC Bank account.Verna police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
