Jaipur: A 28-year-old man died after an SUV allegedly hit his motorcycle in Jaipur’s Ramnagaria police station area Tuesday, police said.The police have identified the victim as Rakesh Meena. The accident took place between 1.30am and 2am Tuesday near Akshaya Patra Circle on Mahal Road.According to police, the SUV was being driven by a medical student. The vehicle has been seized and an investigation is under way to determine the circumstances of the crash and identify the person responsible for driving at the time of the incident.Witnesses at the scene alleged that there were multiple occupants in the SUV and that some of them appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.Police said the injured motorcyclist was taken to a hospital by occupants of the SUV, where he later died during treatment.The victim’s family alleged that evidence related to the case was tampered with and threatened to stage protests outside the hospital.CCTV footage purportedly showing the accident was recovered by the police, which is being examined for the investigation. The footage allegedly shows the SUV striking the motorcycle before dragging it for some distance.A relative of the deceased alleged that the family would seek intervention from political leaders and continue protests until justice was delivered.Ramnagaria SHO Chandrabhan Singh said the motorcyclist was injured after being hit by an SUV near Akshaya Patra Circle and was later taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. “The vehicle has been seized and action will be taken against the driver as per law,” he said.Singh also claimed that they are examining the records and CCTVs to ascertain who is actually driving the vehicle.
